PARADISE CIRCUS/MASSIVE ATTACK

Arriva il primo video per promuovere il nuovo album dei Massive Attack, Heligoland, in uscita il prossimo Febbraio, ed è un'inzio shock: il filmato, infatti, diretto da Toby Dye e realizzato come supporto visivo al brano Paradise Circus (che vede la partecipazione, come vocalist, di Hope Sandoval), è una sorta di intervista alla ex pornostar Georgina Spelvin, e contiene immagini (molto esplicite) tratte dal film hard del 1973 The Devil in Miss Jones.
Sempre a proposito di Heligoland, in rete cominciano a circolare alcuni brani, come Pray For Rain, traccia di apertura nella quale compare Tunde Adebimpe dei Tv On The Radio.

POST-IT: MASSIVE ATTACK/HELIGOLAND

L'attesa sta per terminare: Heligoland, il nuovo album dei Massive Attack, sarà pubblicato il prossimo 8 di Febbraio, a 6 anni di distanza da 100th Window del 2003 (se si esclude la colonna sonora di Dannny The Dog, dell'anno successivo). Come si conviene ad un collettivo come quello di Bristol, le collaborazioni eccellenti si sprecano: si va Damon Albarn ad Hope Sandoval, da Martina Topley Bird a Tunde Adebimpe dei Tv On The Radio. E come se non bastasse, sembra probabile l'uscita di un'edizione speciale, che potrebbe accogliere altre tracce realizzate assieme a personaggi del calibro di Stephanie Dosen, Elizabeth Fraser, Mike Patton e Beth Orton. La copertina del disco è stata disegnata da 3D-Robert Del Naja, che del resto è stato un autorevole esponente della stessa generazione di graffitari dalla quale è venuto fuori un certo Banksy...

WHITE WINTER HYMNAL/FLEET FOXES


Oltre ai Kaiser Chiefs, oggi ascolto anche TV On The Radio. Mi capitò di vederli dal vivo, nel 2004, quando aprirono il concerto dei Muse. C'erano anche gli Zutons, ed allora io non sapevo nemmeno chi fossero gli uni e quali gli altri. Il nuovo album s'intitola Dear Science, e le sonorità riprendono quelle del precedente, riuscito Return To Cookie Mountain, e si fanno ancora più elaborate: il collettivo di Brooklyn mescola infatti elementi rock, funk, drum'n'bass e black con grande disinvoltura. L'andamento delle basi ritmiche e delle liriche è ora incalzante, come in Dancing Choose, ora suadente, come nella suggestiva Lover's Day. Magari non c'è una Wolf Like Me, un singolo perfetto, ma è comunque un buon disco.
Ieri invece, dietro il consiglio d'una mente illuminata, mi ero perso tra le note di To Survive di Joan Wasser, aka Joan As Police Woman (secondo lavoro dopo il debutto del 2006 con Real Life), pseudonimo che appare quasi come un monito. E difatti la sua musica è inquieta e profonda, e ricorda per certi versi quella di Fiona Apple. Da ascoltare, anche dal vivo, visto che sarà a Roma al Circolo degli Artisti il prossimo 24 novembre.
Infine, ho sentito anche il disco omonimo dei Fleet Foxes, in motorino con l'iPod. Un folk-rock vocale, quello della band di Seattle, caldo, tradizionale. Altro che traffico, veniva voglia di chiudere gli occhi ed immaginare scenari da road movie americano, se non fosse stato per la paura di tamponare una Punto grigia. White Winter Hymnal, un piccolo capolavoro, è già un classico.
