I Clinic sono precisi, lineari. Chirurgici. Fanno il loro ingresso nella sala (operatoria per l'occasione) dell'Init, in divisa da infermiere, dottore, o killer seriale, fate un po' voi, ma l'effetto è comunque di grande impatto oculare. Per il resto, sul palco, oltre ai medici ed all'apparato strumentale, non c'è nulla. Il dosaggio minimo indispensabile. La visita della band di Liverpool comincia tardi, come un turno di notte all'ospedale, e dura giusto un'oretta (un intervento di routine, si dirà poi), lasciando tuttavia benefici effetti nella mente: filtrata dalla mascherina di protezione, la voce di Ade Blackburn assume una connotazione lieve, flebile, e terapeutica, mentre il mix di sonorità tradizionali e sperimentali amplifica lo spettro musicale, che si estende senza alcuna controindicazione dai pezzi più intimisti (Corpus Christi) a quelli post-punk (Shopping Bag). E così, poco dopo aver recuperato una vecchia cartella dall'archivio (Walking With Thee), i Clinic, come un'allucinazione, svaniscono nel nulla. L'effetto dell'anestesia è appena finito, ma compaiono già i primi postumi del trattamento: il riff introduttivo di Free Not Free, come un farmaco che non ne vuole sapere di essere eliminato dall'organismo, rimane in circolo... Forse è il caso di fare un controllo.
