Arriva oggi nelle radio Stylo, singolo che anticipa l'uscita di Plastic Beach, il nuovo album dei Gorillaz, attesa per l'8 di marzo. Il brano vede la collaborazione di Mos Def e Bobby Womack, due degli ospiti eccellenti del terzo lavoro della band virtuale, assieme a Lou Reed, Snoop Dogg, De La Soul, Mick Jones e Paul Simonon (già con Damon Albarn nel progetto The Good, The Bad And The Queen) dei Clash, e tanti altri ancora.

MUSICA: ASCOLTI MULTIPLI #4

GLÚMUR/SPRENGJUHÖLLIN


Partiamo da nord, imbucandoci in un vulcano come gli esploratori del film Viaggio al Centro della Terra del 1959 tratto dall'omonimo romanzo di Jules Verne, in compagnia degli Sprengjuhöllin: il nome non lascia dubbi, vengono dall'Islanda, terra incredibilmente fertile negli ultimi anni, specie se si considera che la popolazione è di appena poche centinaia di migliaia di persone. Tutte con una spiccata attitudine alla musica di qualità, però, a quanto pare. Questa nuova band non è certo geniale come Björk o evocativa come i Sigur Rós, ma ascoltarli è piacevole: suonano un pop-rock anni '60 fin troppo semplice a volte, ma efficace. La scelta di cantare in islandese (tranne che in un brano) è ardita, perchè senza falsetti all'altezza di quelli di Jónsi Þór Birgisson la madrelingua risulta poco melodica e difficile da assimilare, ma alla fine comunque paga. Sembra di ascoltare i Beatles doppiati in tedesco, insomma, ma ci si diverte.
Rimaniamo su queste latitudini, e più precisamente in Svezia, con Hernam Düne, band svedese, sì, ma che pare capitata lì per caso, proveniente dal Centro-America: il suono di Next Year In Zion, infatti, sembra perfetto per la colonna sonora di un film Tex-Mex a basso costo, denso com'è di influenze western, latine, addirittura caraibiche. Un raggio di sole, tenue, per scaldare dal freddo, che alla lunga però diventa noioso. Poi mi è capiatato di ascoltare il disco nato dalla collaborazione di David Byrne e Brian Eno, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today. Un album di ballate fondamentalmente, o se preferite di "gospel elettronico", come l'hanno definito gli stessi autori (una su tutte One Fine Day). Buone anche Wanted For Life, che sembra scambiare influenze con Modest Mouse ed Okkervil River (che qualche ascolto ai Talking Heads devono pur averlo riservato), la poliedrica I Feel My Stuff e Poor Boy, ponte tra il sound eighties (come le percussioni stile tribale) e l'elettronica dei giorni nostri. Un buon lavoro, senz'altro, ma che non colpisce, e non stupisce. Ho ascoltato Caught In The Trees di Damien Jurado, cantautore americano che ricorda Ryand Adams, ruvido e diretto, ma un po' banale: a dire il vero non mi ha lasciato granchè, al momento in cui scrivo non rammento neanche un pezzo. Magari lo riascolto con calma. Perfect Symmetry è invece il nuovo album dei Keane, che evidentemente s'inserisce nel solco del precedente Under The Iron Sea, tanto che, a parte un paio di spunti diversi (la scoppiettante Spiralling, il singolo, e Better Than This, che fa pensare al David Bowie dei primi anni ottanta), ti aspetti di sentire da un momento all'altro "Oh crystal ball, crystall ball" ad ogni ritornello. Infine, giusto una segnalazione, perchè di un classico del genere non mi permetto di fare commenti: il Live At Shea Stadium dei Clash, qui davvero all'apice della loro grandezza.
