Dopo i Pineapple Thief, anche gli Snow Patrol annunciano un greatest hits, pratica molto diffusa in autunno, quando ci si avvicina inesorabilmente alle feste natalizie... Nel caso specifico, la band britannica celebra gli oltre 10 anni di carriera pubblicando il prossimo 9 Novembre Up To Now, doppio album con 30 brani, tra cui 3 inediti (compreso il singolo Just Say Yes, in uscita il 2 Novembre) e diverse rarità. La raccolta sarà disponibile anche in versione digipack con un documentario in dvd in allegato, mentre i fan più affezionati potranno ordinare un box set in edizione limitata (rivestito in tessuto!) contenente, oltre ad i cd ed al documentario, tre album in vinile, un dvd aggiuntivo, la stampa litografica di una foto di Bradley Quinn ed un booklet 12'', tutto questo per la cifra di 49.99 Sterline. Le prime 100 copie prenotate saranno firmate da tutti i menbri degli Snow Patrol, quindi affrettatevi...

MUSICA: ASCOLTI MULTIPLI #5

TAKE BACK THE CITY/SNOW PATROL


Lo ammetto, quando esce un disco particolarmente importante (almeno per me), come il nuovo album dei Cure, divento monotematico. Oggi però ho cercato di forzarmi, ed ho dedicato del tempo agli UNKLE, ed agli Snow Patrol.
Nel 1998, mi trovavo a Londra quasi per caso, proprio nell'estate in cui usciva il primo album degli UNKLE, ed i negozi di dischi infestati dalle sagome degli alieni sbarcati dalla copertina di Psyence Fiction mi fecero una grande impressione. Sarà che oggi piove, ma a distanza di anni, le oscure suggestioni del collettivo musicale di James Lavelle e dell'ultimo End Titles... Stories For Film me le sono proprio godute... Non si tratta di un vero e proprio album, ma di una serie di pezzi idealmente abbinati ad "immagini in movimento", frames di film. Alcuni sono brevissimi, come il minuto dark di Kaned And Abel, altri sono veri e propri brani che vedono, come sempre, la collaborazione di ospiti importanti come Josh Homme (Chemical), il regista Abel Ferrara (Open Up Your Eyes) e Gavin Clark (protagonista di alcune delle cose migliori di questo lavoro, come Cut Me Loose ed Against The Grain). Non è un disco eccezionale, ci sono alcune cose che sembrano esercizi di stile, più che intuizioni davvero interessanti, ma nel complesso un ascolto lo vale, eccome.
A Hundred Million Suns è invece il nuovo lavoro degli Snow Patrol, alfieri della scena rock britannica di basso profilo. Un album solido, godibile, magari non originalissimo (le influenze ci sono e si sentono, dagli U2 ai Coldplay, mentre alcune tracce come Lifeboats e Set Down Your Glass fanno pensare alle ballate di Beck), e forse un po' troppo ripetitivo (il singolo Take Back The City, ad esempio, funziona così bene che Disaster Button ha un ritornello praticamente identico).
Ed ora ricomincio ad ascoltare i Cure...
