Si allarga il raggio d'azione di Banksy: il geniale e misterioso artista inglese, infatti, ha presentato al Sundance Festival il suo primo film, il documentario Exit Through The Gift Shop, un lungometragio di 85 minuti definito dall'autore come "un film su un uomo che cerca di fare un film su di me". E naturalmente, dato che si trovava da quelle parti (nello Utah, USA), il writer di Bristol ne ha approfittato per realizzare alcuni stencil in giro per Park City...

ARTE: BANKSY VS BRISTOL

È il più originale e talentuoso artista dei nostri tempi. Un genio. Sto parlando di Banksy, il writer inglese dall'identità anonima. Di seguito pubblico qualche passo dall'intervista che ha rilasciato alla rivista americana di cultura pop Swindle:

PARALLELI: TALK TALK/RADIOHEAD

La scorsa estate, nel mio vecchio, delirante blog, avevo scritto che, negli anni '80, i Radiohead erano i Talk Talk, anche se in molti non se ne sono accorti. Già, perchè il cammino delle due band, per certi versi, è stato molto simile, per fortuna non fino alla fine. Ma andiamo per gradi. Da piccolo ero un ascoltatore precoce: se ripenso a quando avevo dieci, dodici anni, ed acquistavo album come It's My Life e The Colour Of Spring, mi sento quasi un predestinato. Certo, all'epoca, mentre mettevo le cuffie e consumavo vinili, mi lasciavo cullare dalle melodie perfette di Such A Shame e Living In Another World senza approfondirne le ritmiche, i testi, e tutta l'introspettiva complessità di quelle canzoni. Tanto che, quando uscì The Spirit Of Eden rimasi, giustamente, piuttosto spiazzato. Ora, a distanza di 25 anni, il percorso intrapreso dai Talk Talk non è più un sentiero misterioso, ma un viale lastricato di grandi intuizioni, ed è qui, all'incrocio con la musica odierna, che naturali confronti con i Radiohead si fanno strada. Dal disco d'esordio, con qualche concessione alle mode del momento (pop new wave per Mark Hollis e compagni, post-grunge rock per la band di Oxford) e soprattutto alla casa discografica (in entrambi i casi, purtroppo, la EMI), ma che lasciava comunque intravedere tutto il talento potenziale, al secondo lavoro, che metteva subito le cose in chiaro (cos'altro aggiungere su It's My Life e The Bends?) ed al terzo che li consacrava stelle di prima grandezza (The Colour Of Spring ed OK Computer), pur mantenendo un atteggiamento di basso profilo. Ma non è finita qui: si, perchè proprio sul punto più alto e luminoso della notorietà, i Talk Talk escono con un disco difficile (The Spirit Of Eden, appunto), di soli 6 pezzi dalle melodie rarefatte ma ricchi di dettagli incredibili, ed altrettanto fanno i Radiohead con Kid A, album straordinario e straordinariamente controcorrente, nel quale esplorano e rielaborano territori nuovi e distanti tra loro, dall'elettronica al jazz, rinunciando persino a far uscire dei singoli. Risultato: l'industria musicale mainstream si dimentica di loro, mentre la scena alternativa li elegge ad icone. Ed i successivi Laughing Stock ed Amnesiac non fanno che rafforzare questa convinzione. E se le somiglianze tra le due band sono notevoli, quelle tra i relativi frontman lo sono ancora di più: Mark Hollis e Thom Yorke appaiono entrambi bruttini, a dire il vero, con il loro campionario di orecchie a sventola e denti storti, ma traboccano fascino quando sono chinati su di un pianoforte, ricurvi come se volessero cantare direttamente nei tasti, oppure quando si agitano appesi all'asta di un microfono come buste di plastica in balia dal vento. Tutti e due hanno anche all'attivo un notevole album solista (intitolato semplicemente Mark Hollis, per il primo; The Eraser per Thom Yorke), ma le analogie, e questo è il lieto fine, si fermano qui: a questo punto, infatti, i Talk Talk spariscono improvvisamente nel nulla, senza lasciare più alcuna traccia (se si eccettua la collaborazione del bassista Paul Webb con Beth Gibbons dei Portishead nell'album Out Of Season del 2002, sotto lo pseudonimo di Rustin Man), mentre la storia dei Radiohead, grazie al cielo, non ha ancora finito di essere scritta...

MONDO: BARACK OBAMA

Due parole sulle elezioni presidenziali americane. Che vincesse Barack Obama, era scontato: gli Stati Uniti avevano bisogno di un netto cambiamento di rotta e di immagine dopo i disastrosi anni di Bush. Che poi i media negli ultimi giorni di campagna elettorale si siano inventati un miracoloso recupero di McCain per ravvivare la contesa e vendere meglio gli spot nelle trasmissioni, quello è un altro conto. Obama mi piace perchè è giovane, e perchè fino a poco tempo fa, prima che si candidasse, praticamente non si sapeva nemmeno chi fosse, perlomeno da questa parte del mondo. Un nome nuovo davvero, insomma. Che sia nero, sinceramente, m'importa poco, è solo un dettaglio. Evidentemente non la pensa in questo modo il nostro Presidente del Consiglio, dato che senza perdere tempo fa battute idiote sull'argomento, ma per me la razza di un uomo resta solo una caratteristica. Personalmente non credo che Obama cambierà il mondo, di sicuro non il mio, il nostro e forse neanche il vostro. Ma sono contento che abbia vinto lui, e spero che riuscirà a fare al meglio il lavoro per il quale è stato eletto.
