POST-IT: IL SUPERGRUPPO DI THOM YORKE, DAL VIVO

SKIRTING ON THE SURFACE

Come riportato nei giorni scorsi, Thom Yorke si sta esibendo dal vivo con una nuova band senza nome, un supergruppo composto da Flea, Joey Waronker, Mauro Refosco, e Nigel Godrich. Venerdì scorso, il 2 Ottobre, presso l'Echoplex di Los Angeles, ha avuto luogo una sorta di warm-up (in realtà un vero e proprio concerto), al quale erano presenti, tra il pubblico, il regista Spike Jonze, il produttore Rick Rubin, Dangermouse, l'attrice Ellen Page (la protagonista di Juno), i Daft Punk, Kim Gordon dei Sonic Youth, Matt Bellamy e Dominic Howard dei Muse e Zack De La Rocha (Rage Against The Machine). La prima parte dello spettacolo è stata dedicata all'esecuzione, per interno dell'album The Eraser, mentre nella seconda parte Thom ha suonato 4 nuovi brani (3 dei quali da solo, in versione acustica), Paperbag Writer (b-side di Hail To The Thief), The Hollow Earth e Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses. Uno dei nuovi pezzi, Skirting On The Surface, è stato presentato come un brano a cui stanno lavorando i Radiohead al completo.
Ieri sera, si è tenuta la prima delle 2 date ufficiali previste all'Orpheum Theatre, sempre nella metropoli californiana. Stasera la replica.

ASCOLTI: FEELING PULLED APART BY HORSES/THOM YORKE

Solo due canzoni. Una monodose. Troppo poche per una recensione? Forse si, ma tant'è. Seguendo il link indicato nell'e-mail ricevuta dalla W.A.S.T.E. lo scorso venerdì, scarico il file zip contenente i due mp3 (a 320 kbps) e l'immagine jpeg della copertina. Passo immediatatmente tutto in iTunes, ed inizio l'ascolto. Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses, per quanto del tutto elettronica, mi da subito l'impressione di un brano dei Radiohead, più che di Thom da solo (non a caso, la prima stesura del 2001 è stata buttata giù assieme a Johnny Greenwood), se non altro per l'atmosfera chiusa, quasi claustrofobica, incentrata su un cantato breve ed intenso. Il b-side (è proprio il caso di dirlo, dato che il formato fisico sarà un vinile 12 pollici), The Hollow Earth, è invece un pezzo ripreso dalle session di The Eraser, l'album da solista di Yorke, ed in effetti ne riprende lo stile, caratterizzato dalla nevrotica base ritmica. Per il momento, resto incantato dalla prima traccia, dal virtuale lato a, e la mando in loop con in testa, se non proprio un ritornello, la linea melodica del titolo: Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses...
